Welcome to the Graduate Certificate in Counterterrorism Leadership. Graduates from this course will demonstrate GLI’s Graduate Attributes. They will embody integrity, professional knowledge and social skills, making a positive contribution to society in the discipline of counterterrorism leadership.
The course draws on the expertise of GLI faculty in counterterrorism leadership and introduces students to a range of counterterrorism leadership technical and theoretical concepts. Graduates will be equipped with writing and research skills to prepare them for further study and will be able to demonstrate an ability to apply a body of knowledge related to counterterrorism leadership in a range of contexts. Graduates will also have developed skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication at a postgraduate level.
Graduates of the Graduate Certificate in Counterterrorism Leadership may find employment in a range of professional and educational contexts, policing organisations, police leadership and global counterterrorism organisations that require research skills and critical thinking. This course also allows flexibility for students who may wish to start with a shorter postgraduate course before committing to a Graduate Diploma or Masters program or for students who need to exit the Graduate Diploma or Masters program earlier than intended, due to unforeseen personal or professional reasons.

The course structure is based on one semester (each of 13 weeks duration).

To qualify for award of Graduate Certificate in Counterterrorism Leadership a candidate shall accrue an aggregate of at least 40 credit points, including satisfactory completion of the core units noted below.

Domestic Students:
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline and at least two years relevant industry experience.
Professional Entry Option: Applicants with demonstrated minimum five years relevant work experience may apply for entry to this course subject to approval by the Program Director.
International Students:
Completion of an AQF Level 7 or above higher education qualification (or equivalent) in any discipline and at least two years relevant industry experience.

International student applicants whose entry qualifications were obtained in an institution where English is not the language of instruction normally require an International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) of 6.5, with a score of not less than 6.0 in any of the four skill areas, or equivalent.
Note: International students must hold a valid student visa. There are numerous conditions that apply to a student visa. In particular, a holder of a student visa may not work, paid or unpaid, for more than 40 hours in any fortnight during semester time. Special or Alternative Admission Arrangements
Special admission pathways are also open for educationally disadvantaged applicants and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. These applicants will be assessed on a case-by-case basis with Recognition of Prior Learning, professional accreditations and the provision of a portfolio of work for entry to micro credential and single units
Credit and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
Credit for previous learning may be obtained through the processes of articulation, credit transfer and recognition of prior learning or a combination of these processes. Requests for credit for previous study or RPL should be submitted with the Application Form. Students who have successfully completed accredited study or courses at recognised tertiary institutions may apply for a Transfer of Credit. A certified copy of an official transcript detailing studies undertaken must be submitted with the Credit Transfer and RPL Application Form. Once you have chosen your course, you will need to apply direct to GLI. Applications typically close three weeks before semester commences. The Admission Form is completed online. You may be entitled to credit for prior learning, whether formal or informal. Formal learning can include previous study in higher education, vocational education, or adult and community education. Informal learning can include on the job learning or various kinds of work and life experience. Credit can reduce the amount of study needed to complete a degree. Once you have returned a signed copy of your Letter of Offer to accept your place at GLI, you will be invited to enrol in your specific units in the next academic period. Students are advised to consult their timetable and contact a Student Support Officer for tailored academic advice before completing the enrolment form. Applications for credit transfers or recognised prior learning will be communicated to you once they have been processed.
