Welcome to the Master of Counterterrorism Leadership. Graduates from this course will demonstrate GLI’s Graduate Attributes. They will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the critical issues surrounding counterterrorism, leadership, evidence-based decision making, policing effectiveness for counterterrorism management, complex environments and organisational transformation in corporate services and specialised policing domains to support counterterrorism and interoperability.
This course consists of an integrated set of core, specialised units and electives delivered on campus and online that will focus on the principles and practice of advanced policing for cybercrime and counterterrorism leadership. This course will discuss building advanced professional understanding of the core specialisations:
The current role of counterterrorism and cybercrime globally is changing rapidly and increasing in complexity and intensity. Police leaders require environments to share, create and develop knowledge and skills that will counter this rising complexity and advancing technology breaches. The Master of Counterterrorism Leadership is designed to professionally challenge and develop students into expert leaders that can contribute to the advanced decision making and protection against counterterrorism and cybercrime.
Our blended learning Master of Counterterrorism Leadership adopts a cross-disciplinary perspective aimed at developing the transformational mindset needed for counterterrorism and cyber security in a rapidly changing world and advancing disruptive technologies. The course will offer students both on campus and online environments to develop advanced skills and knowledge in counterterrorism and cyber security. The course aims to build police and other vested stakeholders as knowledge leaders in this specialist field. The course assumes a level of understanding of the practice of policing and a professional stake in counterterrorism, organised crime, and cybercrime.
The core aspects of the course prepare police with management and leadership skills and knowledge that result in advanced knowledge of corporate services including managing stakeholder relationships and communication within diverse contexts, leadership and projects, governance ethics and the business of policing combined with the importance of technology and data. This will aid in developing business knowledge for excellence in corporate services leadership in the sector and working in an experience-based economy. In this growing economy, it is vital that businesses and leaders, including those in the public sector, embed a culture of customer experience, innovation and value co-creation and change. This knowledge is also of value to field specialists as it will exemplify the skills for engagement, leading others and persuasion required for advanced strategy, service delivery and execution.
The course units support knowledge in the second challenge – developing an advanced understanding of the core areas of counterterrorism and cybercrime and embedding a culture of continuous innovation that enables police leaders to execute new ideas and solutions, to create value for all stakeholders and provide leadership and guidance in complex areas of counterterrorism and cybercrime. These will include Counterterrorism and Community, and Counterterrorism and Cyber Security. These specialisations resulted from robust discussion with key stakeholders and police sector leaders, counterterrorism, cybercrime, and cybersecurity educators. The Master course blends research and best practice in business leadership, innovation in policing, service science in counterterrorism and cybercrime and advanced knowledge in cybercrime and technology. Through these areas, the course develops transformative organisational and counterterrorism and cybercrime leadership capabilities which will enable police managers, police leaders and field specialist to thrive in the current global counterterrorism and cybercrime environment and actively and strategically pursue terrorists and cyber criminals.
Graduates of the Master of Counterterrorism Leadership may find employment in a range of policing, leadership, global counterterrorism and cyber security organisations, as well as other professional and educational contexts that require research skills and critical thinking. This course also opens opportunities for students to continue further into higher education research courses.
